Pauline, who never drove a day in her life, made it to the hospital every day to see him, and to bring him clean pajamas - because he refused to wear a hospital gown. Wally was released from the hospital to attend his wife's funeral, and he never returned. He passed away less than a year later, on 23 July 1981.
